Seeing this, Draupathi had torn a strip of cloth from her sari and tied around his wrist to stop the bleeding. Lord Krishna, realizing her affection and concern about him, declared himself as her Brother bonded by sisterly love. He promised her to repay this debt whenever she need in future. Many years later, when the Pandavas lost Draupathi in the game of dice and the Kauravas were removing her saari, Krishna helped her divinely in elongating the sari so that they could not remove it.
Another famous version in the history of Rakhi is of Rani Karnavati and Emperor Humayun. Karnawati, the widowed queen of the king of Chittor realised that she could not defend the invasion by the Sultan of Gujarat, Bahadur Shah, she sent a Rakhi to Emperor and asked for her protection, Humayun touched by this gesture of sisterly love immediately set off with his troops to defend Chittor's honour.
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in Shraavana month during the full moon or purnima day, which typically falls in the month of August. This year Rakhi is on 26th August 2018.
